Dark Ages

I want to lash out and shut you down
Of course, you feel the same

We can own it, embrace it
Murder and war are exclusively
Human
There are other ways, but in the end
We always choose war

There is comfort in simple hatred
A sense of belonging
Whispers and promises of righteousness
Self-righteousness, the grand illusion

The hateful mind cannot see its own darkness
It would kill me for some dubious security
If I was gone, it would not think about me
We blame it on the reptile in us, or the monkey

That is unfair, we are human
It really doesn't matter why, but
Until then, I will keep seeing ,feeling and speaking
I will be
